A whole lot "o" oats

Just finished one of my favorite breakfast combos! 4-5 ingredients and about a 1 ½ minutes in the microwave and “presto!” you have your morning meal with little effort and great healthy rewards!
And seeing that February is America Heart awareness month, this meal seemed appropriate.
Ingredients:
½ Cup plain whole oats
3/4-1 Cup water
Handful of fresh baby spinach
4-5 cherry tomatoes
handful of sliced mushrooms (optional)

Put oats and water in a microwave safe bowl or mug and microwave for about 40 seconds until most of the water is absorbed. * Make sure to watch it so it doesn't boil over! Stir and add spinach (I shred the leaves if there are some that are really large) and slice the cherry tomatoes in half or 3rds, add a little water if none remains and microwave for another 30+ seconds and Tada! You have a amazing, easy and healthy meal to start your day!

Going, going...

Since it is America Heart month, did you know that heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death among women??? Heart disease even beats all forms of cancer combined! Wow wow wow! The good news is there are lots of little/easy changes that make a huge impact on your health and helping keep your cholesterol in check. More information can be found at: http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/

Some little changes that I am planning to make or continue to maintain:
·         Decreasing the amount of processed and preservative filled foods that I eat
·         Use at least one of my 15 minute breaks to move/work out my body in some way…go for a walk, stretch etc.
·         Work out at least 4 days a week
·         Drink more water/stay hydrated (And no, coffee or sugar filled drinks don’t count haha nice try though!)

Some other easy ideas:

·         Partner up with friend or family member and become work-out buddies
·         Walk your dog 5 minutes longer than normal, you both will benefit! Don’t have a dog? Go for a walk anyway or offer to walk a neighbor or friends dog! J
·         Add/include one portion of fresh fruit or vegetables to every meal
·         Educate yourself and others about healthy eating habits and exercise routines
·         Park farther away from the grocery store, mall etc.

What easy changes steps can you/are you planning to make to help increase or maintain your health?
Gone!!!
